Olde Brooklyn Brighton Beach Black Cherry Soda

This sample of Olde Brooklyn Brighton Beach Black Cherry Soda comes right from T.J. Maxx, making me believe stores like that are a great place to find new sodas (remember the Jelly Belly soda was found at Marshalls). With my lack of familiarity with the brand I did some research and learned that these sodas are Kosher and low in carbonation. In 2003, the Olde Brooklyn line became part of the White Rock Beverage Company, which dates back to 1871 and is often cited as one of the first beverage companies and the first to use Santa Claus in advertising.

Brighton Beach Black Cherry has a cool, smooth taste that bites at the end. The taste is not overpowering and extremely subtle but spot on with what is expected of black cherry. The low carbonation is noticeable and the beverage does not taste sugary or overly sweet, possibly because its made with pure cane sugar and not corn syrup. Don't be mistaken, it is definitely a soda. The major beverage companies do not typically have mainstream black cherry options which leaves consumers to seek out the flavor from smaller distributors and in the case of Olde Brooklyn, the black cherry is an ideal choice.

Another of Brooklyn's Finest

Overall Taste: 7.0 - I'm not sure what it is, but the cane sugar, the Kosher, and the low carbonation, combine for one solid beverage
Fizz Factor: 5.0 - Low carbonation but its there so chug one and you'll feel it
Appearance: 8.0 - The soda is almost purple and accented by purple lettering on the bottle...classic
Flavor: 7.3 - Quite a stunning black cherry example but I have to put this somewhere right under a seven and a half because its a great soda but also a niche flavor

From the company: 12 oz bottle has 190 calories, 30 mg of sodium, 46 g of carbs, 45 g of sugar and 0 g of protein.

One quick note about Olde Brooklyn is the bottle design. Looking at other flavors, each bottle bears the Brooklyn Bridge but contains graphics in different colors to match the soda the bottle contains to make an interesting series. The names of each soda even correspond to New York City locations and each pack bears images related to the flavor's name, which is a nice touch.
