Emma's Sugar Shack

You know what I think when I hear the name Emma? "Emma, take your toy back to the carpet."

I do not think of sugar. However, a summer of abusing a friend-of-a-friend's Cape house has changed how I think of the name Emma. Emma's Sugar Shack in Popponesset Marketplace in Mashpee is a quaint little sugar shop that can provide a sugar fix while you are vacationing by the beach for the weekend. The store is located in a little shopping village perfect for spending a weekend night just taking in the atmosphere, listening to live music and filling up on seafood. But the last stop of the night is always Emma's.

Emma's Sugar Shack is not a big candy shop. Having been to other stores that have traditionally more touristy types of candy (the 5lb gummy bear, gigantic box of Nerds, etc.) I can safely say you won't find any other that here. The biggest gummy animal they wrangle is a baby alligator. However, they have an interesting variety of fruity candies and a plethora of fudge and chocolate so no matter what your tastes, your cravings will be satisfied. My personal selection? Well, not being an avid chocolate fan, I stuck to the Bottle Caps, various flavors of Blow Pops, including some only accessible to me via Amazon, and of course, the large gummy creatures, which for me, consisted of a few tarantulas and a large rat. They were sold out of alligators on my last trip.

Emma's Sugar Shack is not a mecca that must be visited but when in the area, remember that it is there. And one big plus of the store, for me anyway, is that they carry Finger Lights, which are just plain awesome.
